The relationship between thought and language is an everlasting topic in the field of linguistics especially in the field of psycholinguistics. Many famous linguists and scholars research into the relationship between thought and language, including Herder, Humboldt, Trendelenbury, Sapir, Whorf, Gui Shichun,Lian Shuneng and Bao Human. Starting from Sapir-Whorf Hypothesis,this article refutes its extreme viewpoint,and puts forward the right relationship between language and thought from the perspective of cognitive linguistics and translation. The right relationship between language and thought should be that they are independent but interactive. While,this article attaches great importance to the fact that thought influences language, especially Chinese and Occidental thought influence Chinese and Occidental languages. This article puts forward four kinds of Chinese and Occidental thought patterns,and researches into their respective characteristics and linguistic phenomena influenced by them. Since this article analyses Chinese and Occidental thought pattems and their respective linguistic phenomena, Chinese students can get inspiration as follows:When practicing CE or EC translation,students should permeate simple linguistic phenomena and analyze its intemal mental mechanism-thought pattern,and start from Chinese and Occidental thought patterns in order to master respective linguistic phenomena influenced by these thought patterns and in order to make better translation.
