《大學(xué)英語》依據(jù)《成人高等教育學(xué)士學(xué)位英語水平考試大綱（非英語專業(yè)）》，參照國內(nèi)同類教材，針對(duì)成人高校學(xué)生學(xué)習(xí)特點(diǎn)編寫而成，主要用作各類成人高校專升本各專業(yè)的基礎(chǔ)英教材。編寫本教材的指導(dǎo)思想是：培養(yǎng)學(xué)生掌握扎實(shí)的英語基礎(chǔ)知識(shí)，具備較強(qiáng)的閱讀理解翻譯和寫作的能力，順利通過成人高等教育學(xué)士學(xué)位英語水平考試。
本教材共24單元，每單元分為A、B兩部分：A部分包括課文、生詞、短語、注釋練習(xí)；B部分是借鑒學(xué)士學(xué)位英語水平考試題型設(shè)計(jì)的專項(xiàng)練習(xí)與實(shí)踐。課文是教材的核心與學(xué)習(xí)重點(diǎn)。文章全部出自英文報(bào)刊、雜志和書籍。內(nèi)容涉及人文歷史、科普教育、社會(huì)問題、生活習(xí)慣等題材。語言規(guī)范，長度、難度適宜，內(nèi)容安排上循序漸進(jìn)。
